Born in Ciudad Guzman, Mexico, Eleazar Velazquez spent most of his childhood in Oklahoma City before making his way to Frisco, Texas. As a self-taught artist, Velazquez's art education has come from experimentation and research, with a focus on honing his skills through daily practice. He considers his approach to be like exercising a muscle, continuously growing and developing as an artist.
Frida Kahlo's vibrant paintings and Diego Rivera's monumental murals have greatly influenced Velazquez's work. This admiration is particularly evident in his earlier pieces, such as 'The Power of My Soul', a striking portrait of Kahlo painted on an old piece of plywood.
Through studying Kahlo's self-portraits, Velazquez has mastered the art of painting faces and sees her as a warrior who accomplished so much despite the tragedy she faced in her life. Velazquez has created modern interpretations of Frida in various art forms, while also focusing on the modern urban cowboy and embracing his life in the great plains of Oklahoma.
Velazquez's artistic creations serve as a mirror of his evolving viewpoint, drawing inspiration from the intense emotions that life offers. His pieces radiate the vibrancy of his feelings and encourage viewers to explore the intricacies of his artistic journey, forging a profound bond with his art and the sentiments he strives to convey.
